Pennies for Peace Campaign          2008

From March 17 through April 8, students from Hall will be administering teach-ins about the Pennies for Peace campaign at Hall, KP, Bristow, Norfeldt, Morley, Whiting Lane, Bugbee, American School for the Deaf, and the Montessori School of Greater Hartford.  Students will learn what the power of a penny is in villages throughout the Himalayas, and how their “small change” can create a great change in the world.

“Pennies for Peace” started when Greg Mortenson stumbled on a small village in the remote mountains of Pakistan, and began a campaign to ensure that the children of that village—and thousands of others—had their universal human right to education.

Hall Human Rights Coalition has devoted three weeks to educating about Mortenson’s mission and the Pennies for Peace campaign.

“It makes cents that everyone has

the right to an education.”

Date: April 8, 2008

Time: 5pm-8pm

On April 8th “Pennies for Peace” will take over Barnes & Noble in Blue Back Square!  From 5pm-8pm schools will be encouraged to bring the pennies that their school has collected and celebrate our initiative to help everyone access their universal right to an education.

Guest readers will share passages from the popular book “Three Cups of Tea.”  There will also be an open mic for poetry, acoustic performances, and readings from students of any age.

We encourage everyone to come out and participate!  A percentage of sales from that night will also be donated to our Pennies for Peace campaign!
